April 24th is National Pigs in a Blanket Day.  Time to celebrate.

If you haven’t tried this delicious comfort food, this is the day to do so.  They are hot dogs or sausage wrapped in pastry and sometimes stuffed with cheese as well.  They range from simple to very gourmet.

If you want to make your own here is an easy pigs in a blanket recipe.  Simply take some croissant dough in one of the refrigerator packages in the store and roll it out.  Place a small hot dog or sausage inside of each “croissant” and roll it around the dog.  Bake according to the directions on the croissant dough package and enjoy.  You can also punch them up a bit by sprinkling some Parmesan cheese on the dough before baking.

Pigs in a blanket trace back to Betty Crocker in 1957.  She published Betty Crocker’s Cooking for Kids, and it had the first recipe for this children’s favorite.
