National Jelly Bean Day
April 22nd is National Jelly Bean Day.
Jelly beans were made popular by Boston confectioner William Schrafft during the Civil War who encouraged his customers to send them to the Union soldiers. Jelly beans were one of the first candies to be sold by the pound.
Jelly beans have been associated with Easter since the Thirties. Today they are found in Easter baskets along with hard boiled dyed eggs and chocolate and marshmallow eggs and bunnies. But as you know, they are enjoyed all year long. They make a delicious sweet tooth fix!
