We made our New Year’s resolutions on New Year’s Eve while tossing back a few too many cocktails. Now as we wake on New Year’s Day with a hefty hangover, all of those get healthy in the New Year resolutions have taken a back seat to the hangover blues.

Here is a quick smoothie that can help you get back on track fast.  It’s a delicious and easy to stomach drink packed full of the nutrients your body needs to repair and rejuvenate after a night of over-indulgence.  Among other things, alcohol is a diuretic and caused you to flush out too many of your electrolytes.  The cup of coconut water in this smoothie will give you 250 mg of sodium and about 600 mg’s potassium to help replace what you lost and help flush out the toxins from the alcohol.

Banana is also high in potassium and along with the blueberries provides an abundance of micronutrients and complex carbs to give your body the fuel it needs to repair.  Quinoa is a superfood that is a complete protein and the yogurt also gives you protein to help with your stamina and some probiotics to help get your stomach back on track.

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup quinoa
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 1/2 cup of a 5 oz container of plain vanilla or coconut yogurt

  1. Place all ingredients in a a high speed blender or NutriBullet and blend 60 seconds or longer until smooth.
